Photoworks Gallery is proud to present The Mind’s Eye, an exhibition featuring the work of students from two Montgomery County High Schools, The Siena School in Silver Spring and Holton- Arms School in Bethesda.

The Siena School
The photographs from The Siena School’s students are archival inkjet prints showing a broad spectrum of students’ photographic skills and interests. All selected students are in high school and have developed advanced skills through their multi-year commitment to photography. These students’ work embodies their representations of The Mind’s Eye, ultimately seeking to explore various aspects of their creativity and identities through a theme of contrasts.
With campuses in Silver Spring, MD, and Oakton, VA, The Siena School serves bright, college-bound students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences in elementary, middle, and high school grades.
Kristian Whipple is a Washington, DC–based freelance photographer and full-time teacher at The Siena School’s Silver Spring campus. His work has been shown at Glen Echo Photo Slam and Exposed DC, among other places. See more of Kristian’s work on his website. Holton-Arms
The photographs by the Holton-Arms students are a collection of Silver Gelatin and Digital prints. All students selected for this exhibit are Advanced Students who devote as much time in Photography class as they do to their academic subjects. The work represents their artistic interpretations of the “The Mind’s Eye.” The art curriculum of Holton-Arms cultivates each student in the process of realizing their creative vision while learning technical skills that allowing them to express themselves.
Donna Cantor Maclean has been a photographer and photography teacher since 1983. She started her teaching career as an adjunct at the American University, Trinity College and The Corcoran School of Art while maintaining a commercial photo studio. Donna was a tenured professor at Gallaudet University, where she learned American Sign Language so that she could teach Photography without an ASL interpreter. Currently Donna teaches both film and digital photography at The Holton-Arms School.
