December 2024
Dear Friends of Photoworks,

As 2024 comes to a close, we are thrilled to celebrate a year filled with creativity, connection, and growth—made possible by your steadfast support.
This year was marked by milestones that enriched our community.

Inspiring Lectures and Engaging Conversations
We kicked off 2024 with powerful presentations, including Cheriss May’s From Passion to Purpose and Francesca Scott’s fascinating exploration of Addison Scurlock’s enduring influence on photography.
Captivating Exhibitions
Our main gallery hosted seven dynamic exhibitions to include Walter Plotnick’s Surprise Inside; Marvin Tupper Jones’ Building a Mixed-Race Community; So It Goes, a showcase of local high school talent; Good Sports, juried by John McDonnell; The Photoworks Faculty and Book Art exhibit; Genesis, the stunning solo exhibit by our 2024 Artist in Residence, Mari Calai; and most recently Coffee and Critique: A Celebration, honoring our monthly photo review community.

Expanding Online Programs
Our online exhibits, complemented by artist talks via Zoom, highlighted creators like Matt Makara, Lewis Schrager, and Carolina Zumarán-Jones.

Innovative Courses and Collaborations
From robust black & white and digital programs to alternative processes like the growing Handmade Photo Group, our educational offerings continue to thrive. Collaborations with Montgomery College, Holton-Arms School, Gonzaga College High School, and the Arlington Career Center flourished, alongside
international partnerships in Mexico and exciting new connections with German creators.

Artist in Residence Program
This signature program continues to attract a sizable number of talented local artists and we will soon launch an open call for 2025, promising another year of innovation and discovery.

Strengthening Our Foundations
Looking ahead, we’ve partnered with a pro-bono consultant to refine our management and operations, ensuring that we’re equipped to deliver even more impactful programming in 2025.
As we reflect on these achievements, we know none of this would have been possible without you. Your belief in our mission empowers us to foster creativity, showcase artists, and build community through photography.

Help Us Illuminate 2025
Your contribution to our year-end fundraising campaign directly supports the growth of our programs, faculty, and technical capabilities, while enabling us to amplify the voices of deserving artists. Every donation—large or small—makes a tangible impact.
Together, let’s build on this year’s success and create an even brighter future for Photoworks.

With gratitude and warm wishes,
The Photoworks Team
